The cost of living remains the number one issue facing families across the southern Gold Coast. The economy is stalling, households are hurting, and productivity is going backwards — yet Labor continues to congratulate itself on so-called “cost of living relief”.
A full-time minimum wage worker is now left with just $33 a week after paying for rent, food and transport. Families are being squeezed harder than ever, while the Prime Minister’s long-forgotten promise of $275 off power bills has been exposed as empty words — instead, electricity prices continue to soar.
Australia’s national debt grows by $50,000 every 60 seconds — just in interest alone. Future generations will be left to foot the bill for Labor’s reckless spending spree, inheriting a legacy of economic pain and uncertainty.
Meanwhile, over half of Australian voters now rely on government for their main source of income — an alarming and unsustainable trend. Government should act as an enabler, not a provider, yet Labor’s record spending continues unchecked. Expenditure is now at its highest level outside a recession since the end of World War II.
It’s no wonder inflation is biting. This isn’t a global problem — it’s a home-grown one.

Now, just as they were warned, the Government’s 5% Deposit Scheme has backfired — driving house prices up by an estimated 6% and pushing first home buyers even further out of reach.
The Federal Member for McPherson, Leon Rebello MP has urged the Government to exercise budget discipline and prioritise economic growth.
“Our community deserves an economy that rewards effort, encourages productivity, and helps every family get ahead — not one held back by government overspending and short-term politics,” Mr Rebello said.
“It’s not fair for this Government to keep piling on debt for the next generation to pay off.”
