In recent weeks, our community has taken a strong stand against the Reedy Creek quarry proposal.
After sustained advocacy and more than 10,500 submissions, our voices matter and should not be ignored.
This is not the first time we have faced this fight. A previous quarry proposal was refused by Council, and that decision was upheld by the Planning and Environment Court in 2017. Our community rejected the proposal then — and we have made it absolutely clear that we reject it again now.
Since this new application was lodged, our community has united and worked tirelessly to inform and mobilise local residents. From day one — letterboxing streets, knocking on doors, and speaking directly with families — I have been proud to stand alongside you.
On 4 February 2026, I took our community’s concerns all the way to Federal Parliament, speaking in the House of Representatives to ensure our voices were heard at the highest level. I was also proud to stand with hundreds of locals at the rally in Tallebudgera, making our position unmistakably clear.
A quarry of this scale does not belong next to homes, schools, and such a critical biodiversity corridor.
It may be the right project — but it is absolutely the wrong location.
Throughout this campaign, I have stood united with our State MPs — Laura Gerber MP, Ros Bates MP and Hermann Vorster MP — and I thank them for their advocacy within the State Government to stop this project.
Thanks to our community’s strong response, the State Government is now launching a review to potentially call-in the proposal.
I will continue to stand with our community to protect the place we proudly call home.
